Blumat Digital - Tensiometer - Ceramic, Digital Soil Moisture Sensor. A ceramic soil moisture sensor used to determine the moisture level around plants in pots, containers, and in the ground. The professional digital tensiometer for measuring soil moisture, the BLUMAT DIGITAL, displays the plant's water needs at the touch of a button. The moisture meter is useful in situations where it's difficult to estimate soil moisture, such as in deep containers. The Blumat sensor provides information on the suction power required by roots to "pull" water from the soil. Applications: In all types of soil, clay granules; indoors and outdoors, for example, to control the watering of: Plants in large containers, Perennials, Shrubs, Hedges, Fruit and vegetable cultivation, Horticulture, Cold-loving plants, Storage granules. How does it work? Unlike most other moisture sensors, the Blumat Digital does not measure the dielectric permittivity of the soil. The measurement takes place at the tip of a porous ceramic cone. The ceramic cone of the moisture meter loses water when in contact with dry soil. If the soil is later irrigated, the cone draws water from it. Different soil moisture levels cause different negative osmotic pressures in the moisture sensor. This negative pressure is displayed on the screen. High values, e.g., above 200 mBar, indicate dry soil; low values, e.g., below 50 mBar, indicate wet soil. Measuring moisture helps make decisions about plant watering, especially in larger tanks or greenhouses. The Blumat Digital tensiometer is placed close to the plant's roots and can measure moisture at a depth of 15-18 cm with the press of a button. Observations over a period of 1-2 weeks are an excellent way to determine whether the desired moisture level is being maintained. After this period, you can move the sensor to another plant and repeat the observations.
